Smart Cube Revolution (2019-2026)

Smart cube = BLE + gyro + battery + app. GAN 356 i (2019) the first mainstream BLE speedcube. Iterations i2 (2021), i3 (2022), i Carry 2 (2024 — dockless, 700h battery). Apps: GAN Cube Station, Cubeast (3rd-party speedcubing-grade), csTimer (open source, BLE since 2020).

  • Beginner/intermediate: highest value. Cubeast per-step splits; sub-15 → sub-12 progression 30-50% faster.
  • Advanced: new method drilling + plateau detection.
  • Elite: analysis only (WCA disallows in comp). Faster feedback shortens PR cadence.

Post-2022 Chinese child cohort. Wang (b. 2013), Geng (b. 2017), Zajder (~2016) — learning trajectory entirely in smart-cube era. Expect post-2030 sub-3 contenders predominantly from this generation.
